Tip of the iceberg

I am not a die-hard cricket fan and obviously it is not in my blood. Yet I keep seeing almost everyone giving abuzz about the continuous and constant failure of SL cricket. I strongly believe that the last night’s game was alarmingly heartbreaking. The former teams have ingrained this love and passion in SL cricket fans immensely that they find the current situation as a harder pill to swallow. This tiny island has always been renowned for its cricket and it is one field which brought forth the name ‘SL” beyond the island’s boundaries. Having a great and glorious history winning the ‘worldcup 1996' and now being bowled out to the 4th lowest T20 score, for these amazing die-hard fans this was a catastrophe. Thus many started to show their dismay by unfollowing the players on social media.

For many ‘seeing is believing’. It is the simple truth ! and it is pretty much easy to put the blame on what we see. Yet what many people fail to understand is the fact that the problem in our national team is deep rooted. We are all criticizing and shaming the tip of the iceberg. Do you think that it is easy on the players to loose each and every match that play and comeback to their motherland to face this backlash on social media. Failure has its consequences and they must all be well aware of it. Do you think they are risking their whole future and the unlimited and continuous cashflow willingly? Cricketers are well known ‘Pokémon'. The personal brandings and the media presence that they have established will forever be gone. Most importantly once you are out, there’s no way back into the field. It still remains a mystery as to why these cricketers embark on a journey towards misery and misfortune when the golden future and the legacy is right on their palm. In my perspective we will not reap much by shaming these fellow sufferers. This backlash might have a little impact yet until when can they hold up?

This situation needs special attention and from the experts not from the so called uneducated good for nothing culprits who destroy everything in the island. People behind the scene should be accountable for the current tragedy. we all are victimized by those who are behind the scenes. Accountability and transparency should be brought into this whole process before it is too late to save this beautiful sport rendered or rather gifted by the white relatives of ours. The ship of ‘SL cricket’ might burn and sink quite soon if the authorities overlook the issues and if all the fans keep seeing the tip of the iceberg. Fortunately or fortunately, nobody would be giving or gifting compensations in high dollar values if this precious and sacred ship of ours gets burned and sunken, leaving us all in grief and fury.
